About this tool
Before a post goes out it is worth knowing exactly what it contains. The Social Text Analyzer counts everything that matters structurally — characters against the platform limit, words, sentences, hashtags, mentions, links and emoji — and reports the average sentence length, which is the single best readability signal for social copy.
How it works
Pattern matching identifies hashtags, mentions and URLs, while emoji are detected through the unicode extended pictographic property so modern sequences are counted correctly. Sentences are counted by terminal punctuation, and average sentence length is derived from the word and sentence totals. Character count is compared against the documented caption limit for the platform you select.
- 1Paste the post exactly as you plan to publish it.
- 2Select the destination platform for the character comparison.
- 3Generate to see the full structural breakdown.
- 4Trim or rewrite anything that looks out of proportion.
Example
Input
A post with one link, one hashtag, one mention and one emoji
Output
Characters 104/2200 · Words 14 · Hashtags 1 · Links 1 · Emoji 1
When to use it
- Final pre-publish check on a long caption.
- Making sure a post is not overloaded with tags relative to its copy.
- Checking sentence length before publishing to a professional feed.
- Auditing a batch of scheduled posts for consistency.
Tips
- Average sentence length above twenty-five words is hard to read on a phone.
- If hashtags outnumber words, the post is a tag dump rather than a post.
- Links in captions are unclickable on some platforms — check before relying on one.
Limitations
Every number here describes structure, not performance. No count predicts engagement, and platforms occasionally count characters differently for emoji and non-Latin scripts. Treat the character total as very close rather than exact.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this predict engagement?
- No, and be suspicious of any tool that claims to. Engagement depends on the content, the audience and timing, none of which a text analyser can see.
- Why is my emoji count different from another tool?
- Emoji can be built from multiple code points. This tool counts pictographic characters, which can differ from a platform's own counting method.
- Which platforms show a character limit?
- Those with documented caption limits, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Pinterest.
