About this tool

Most captions fail structurally rather than creatively: the hook is too long to survive the fold, the post asks nothing, or the call to action is buried under thirty hashtags. This analyser reports the structure — opening line length, paragraph count, questions, detected calls to action, tags and mentions — so you can fix the shape before worrying about the words.

How it works

The first line is isolated and measured, because that is what appears before the more button on most platforms. Paragraphs are counted by blank-line separation, since single-block captions are far harder to read on a phone. Question marks are counted as an engagement-invitation signal, and the caption is scanned for a list of common call-to-action phrases such as save this, link in bio and let me know. Hashtags and mentions are counted separately.

  1. 1Paste the caption exactly as you plan to publish it, line breaks included.
  2. 2Select the platform for the character comparison.
  3. 3Generate to see the structural report.
  4. 4Shorten the opening line and add a single clear call to action if either is missing.

Example

Input

A three-paragraph caption with one question and one CTA

Output

Opening line 34 chars · Paragraphs 3 · Questions 1 · CTA detected: save this

When to use it

  • Checking the hook is short enough to be read before the fold.
  • Confirming a post asks for exactly one action, not four.
  • Making sure long captions are broken into readable paragraphs.
  • Reviewing a team member's caption against a consistent standard.

Tips

  • Keep the opening line under about eighty characters so it survives the fold.
  • One call to action per post; two compete and both lose.
  • Blank lines between paragraphs cost nothing and transform readability.

Limitations

Detection is keyword-based, so an unusual call to action will not be recognised and a phrase used incidentally may be flagged. Nothing here measures or predicts engagement — a perfectly structured caption on a weak post still performs weakly.

Frequently asked questions

Does a question increase engagement?
It invites a reply, which sometimes helps. It is not a guarantee, and a question nobody cares about performs worse than a strong statement.
Why was my call to action not detected?
Detection matches a fixed list of common phrases. An unusual CTA will be missed — that does not mean it is bad.
Can it score my caption?
Deliberately not. A single score would imply a predictive model that does not exist here. The tool reports facts and leaves judgement to you.
