About this tool

Social platforms increasingly surface posts in search, which makes the words in a caption matter more than they used to. This checker measures how much of your copy a target phrase occupies — and it excludes hashtags by default, because a thirty-tag block would otherwise make every density figure meaningless.

How it works

Hashtags are stripped from the text before analysis unless you turn that off. The remaining copy is tokenised, and if you supply a target phrase the tool scans for consecutive matches of that exact word sequence, reporting occurrences and density. It also lists the twelve most frequent two-word phrases with their densities, which shows what the copy emphasises whether you intended it or not.

  1. 1Paste the caption or post text.
  2. 2Enter the phrase you want the post to be about.
  3. 3Keep hashtag exclusion on for a realistic figure.
  4. 4Generate and read the top phrases table alongside the target number.

Example

Input

A caption mentioning remote onboarding twice

Output

Occurrences 2 · Density 12.50% (hashtags excluded)

When to use it

  • Checking a caption actually says what the post is about.
  • Spotting repetition that makes short copy feel clumsy.
  • Comparing two caption drafts on emphasis rather than feel.
  • Auditing whether an account's captions mention its niche at all.

Tips

  • In captions under thirty words, ignore the percentage and just check the phrase appears once.
  • Put the key phrase in the first sentence where it is visible before the fold.
  • Do not repeat a phrase to raise the number; it reads badly and gains nothing.

Limitations

No social platform publishes a density target, and none is known to weight density. Short captions produce volatile percentages — one repetition in a twenty-word caption looks alarming and is usually fine. Read the number in context.

Frequently asked questions

Do social platforms use keyword density?
There is no evidence that any of them do. Density here is a writing check, not an optimisation target.
Why exclude hashtags?
A long tag block inflates the word count and crushes every density figure, hiding what the actual copy says.
What density should I aim for?
None. Mention the topic clearly once or twice and spend the remaining effort on making the post worth reading.
