About this tool

YouTube treats hashtags differently from every other platform: the first three from your description appear as clickable links above the video title, which makes their order a genuine editorial decision. This generator builds a descriptive set from your topic so you can pick which three represent the video best and keep the rest in the description body.

How it works

The topic is expanded into the exact phrase, its component words and a few descriptive variations, then YouTube-typical terms such as shorts and youtubeCreator are appended. Tags are normalised into valid hashtag syntax and de-duplicated. Because the first three matter most, the list is ordered from most specific to most general so the strongest candidates appear first.

  1. 1Enter the topic, niche or product your post is about.
  2. 2Choose how many hashtags you want and whether to use camelCase or lowercase.
  3. 3Generate, then review each tag and delete anything that does not describe your post.
  4. 4Copy the set as a block or download it for reuse.

Example

Input

budget camera review

Output

#budgetCameraReview #budget #camera #review #shorts #youtubeCreator

When to use it

  • Choosing the three hashtags that will sit above a video title.
  • Building a consistent series tag used across every episode.
  • Adding descriptive tags to Shorts where the caption is brief.
  • Preparing description blocks in advance for a batch of uploads.

Tips

  • Make the first hashtag your series or niche tag — it appears publicly above the title.
  • Avoid misleading tags; YouTube's spam policies cover irrelevant metadata.
  • Pair hashtags with a proper description written for humans, not a keyword dump.

Limitations

Hashtags are a small part of YouTube discovery compared with the title, thumbnail and viewer retention. Hashly cannot tell you how often a tag is used on YouTube, and no tag set guarantees impressions or views.

Frequently asked questions

How many hashtags can a YouTube description hold?
YouTube ignores hashtags entirely if a description contains more than sixty of them. In practice, a handful of relevant tags is plenty.
Do hashtags in the title work?
They function, but they consume valuable title characters. Most creators put them in the description and let YouTube surface the first three.
Are hashtags the same as video tags?
No. Video tags are a separate metadata field entered in YouTube Studio. Use the YouTube Tag Generator for those.
