About this tool
Questions and keywords describe the same need in different registers. A support inbox full of questions is a keyword list waiting to be extracted, and an FAQ page is a set of keywords already written out. This tool converts the first into the second by stripping question words and filler, leaving the compact subject phrase underneath.
How it works
Each question is tokenised and filtered against a list of question words, auxiliary verbs, pronouns, articles and common filler such as best way. What remains is joined back into a phrase that reads like a keyword rather than a sentence. You can optionally keep the original question alongside its compressed form, which is useful when you want both the FAQ heading and the target phrase in the same export.
- 1Paste your questions, one per line — from support tickets, surveys or an FAQ.
- 2Decide whether to keep the original questions alongside the compressed phrases.
- 3Generate to see the extracted keyword phrases.
- 4Review for meaning, then export.
Example
Input
How do I clean a cast iron pan?
Output
clean cast iron pan
When to use it
- Turning a support inbox export into a keyword list.
- Converting an FAQ page into target phrases for on-page work.
- Compressing survey responses into countable phrases.
- Preparing question data for grouping and intent classification.
Tips
- Keep the originals when you plan to write FAQ answers from the same export.
- Run the output through the Keyword Cleaner to normalise case and spacing.
- Group the results afterwards to see which questions cluster onto one page.
Limitations
Compression can change meaning. Stripping who or when from a question sometimes removes the entire point of it, and negations can be lost. Always read the output next to the input before using it, particularly for questions where the question word carried the intent.
Frequently asked questions
- Why did my question lose its meaning?
- Question words are stripped, so a phrase whose meaning depended on when or who can become ambiguous. Keep the original in those cases.
- Can I customise the filler list?
- Not in this tool. If a term you need is being stripped, add it back manually or rephrase the question before converting.
- Does it handle multiple languages?
- The filler list is English. Other languages will pass through with most words intact, which limits the usefulness of the compression.
