About this tool
Prefixes carry intent. Putting best in front of a product phrase turns it into a comparison search; putting free in front turns it into a budget search. This tool applies a whole set of prefixes to every keyword in your list at once, so a list of twelve products becomes a matrix of intent variations in a single click.
How it works
Your keyword list and your prefix list are both split on line breaks. Every prefix is then combined with every keyword, preserving the order of the prefix list so the output is predictable. You can keep the original unprefixed keywords in the output too, which is useful when the result feeds straight into a planning sheet. Duplicates are removed case-insensitively at the end.
- 1Paste the keywords you want to modify.
- 2Edit the prefix list — the defaults cover the most common intent modifiers.
- 3Decide whether the originals should stay in the output.
- 4Generate and export the expanded list.
Example
Input
running shoes + best, cheap
Output
best running shoes · cheap running shoes
When to use it
- Expanding a product list into comparison and budget variations.
- Building ad group variations around a core set of terms.
- Adding qualifier variations before running an intent classification.
- Generating category page name candidates for an ecommerce site.
Tips
- Replace the default prefixes with vocabulary from your own market.
- Combine with the Suffix Generator to build three-part phrases.
- Run the output through the Intent Classifier to see how the prefixes shifted intent.
Limitations
Not every prefix suits every keyword — free professional advice reads oddly, and advanced beginner guide is nonsense. The tool has no way to judge which pairs work, so a manual pass over the output is essential before use.
Frequently asked questions
- How many prefixes should I use?
- Each prefix multiplies the output by your list length, so five to ten well-chosen prefixes usually produce a manageable list.
- Can I use multi-word prefixes?
- Yes. Anything on its own line is treated as a prefix, including phrases such as how to or best value.
- Does it check the combinations make sense?
- No. Combination is mechanical; reviewing the output for phrases people would actually type is your job.
