About this tool

Long-tail keywords are the longer, more specific phrases people type when they know roughly what they want. They usually attract fewer visitors per phrase but a far more decided audience. This generator takes your core topic and stretches it into that longer shape by attaching audiences, situations, content formats and desired outcomes, so you end up with phrases that describe a real person in a real moment rather than a vague subject.

How it works

Your topic is combined with four vocabulary sets. Audience terms answer who the content is for, situation terms answer where and under what constraints, format terms answer what kind of page would satisfy the search, and outcome terms answer what the reader hopes will change. You can replace the default audience list with your own. A minimum word count filter then removes anything too short to count as long-tail, and duplicates are stripped before the list is returned.

  1. 1Enter the core topic you want to expand.
  2. 2Optionally list the audiences you serve, one per line.
  3. 3Set the minimum number of words a phrase must contain.
  4. 4Generate and export the phrases you want to keep.

Output

meal prep for busy people · meal prep on a budget · how to meal prep step by step · meal prep checklist

When to use it

  • Filling out a content calendar with specific article angles instead of broad topics.
  • Finding phrases for supporting pages that link up to a competitive pillar page.
  • Writing video titles and descriptions that match a precise viewer situation.
  • Creating landing page variants for different audience segments.

Tips

  • Replace the default audiences with the exact words your customers use to describe themselves.
  • Longer is not automatically better — six-word phrases nobody says are still dead ends.
  • Group the survivors with the Keyword Grouping Tool to see which clusters deserve a dedicated page.

Limitations

The tool builds phrases from patterns, so it cannot tell you which long-tail phrase people actually type. Treat the list as a starting point: keep phrases that sound like something a customer of yours would say out loud, and discard the rest before you commit them to a content plan.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a long-tail keyword?
There is no official threshold, but most practitioners mean phrases of three or more words that describe a specific need. The minimum word setting lets you pick the cut-off that fits your project.
Are long-tail keywords easier to rank for?
Often, but not always. Specificity usually reduces competition, yet a specific phrase can still sit in a crowded market. Hashly cannot measure difficulty, so verify anything you intend to build a page around.
Can I import an existing audience list?
Yes. Paste your audience segments into the audiences box, one per line, and every combination will use them instead of the defaults.
