About this tool
Duplicates creep into keyword lists whenever two exports are merged, and they quietly distort everything downstream: counts, priorities, even how much work a project looks like. This checker reports exactly which phrases repeat and how often, and hands you a de-duplicated list at the same time so you can fix the problem in the same visit.
How it works
Each line is normalised before comparison. Extra spaces are collapsed, punctuation is optionally stripped, and case is optionally ignored. Lines that normalise to the same string are treated as the same keyword, with the first spelling kept as the display form. The report lists every phrase seen more than once with its count, while the items panel holds the unique list.
- 1Paste the list you suspect contains repeats.
- 2Decide whether case and punctuation should matter for comparison.
- 3Generate to see the duplicate report and the totals.
- 4Copy the unique list from the results panel or export it.
Example
Input
running shoes, Running Shoes, cycling shoes, running shoes
Output
running shoes — 3 times · unique list: running shoes, cycling shoes
When to use it
- Merging keyword exports from two tools without double counting.
- Auditing a client list before quoting on content volume.
- Finding near-identical phrases that only differ in spacing.
- Checking a hashtag or tag list before it hits a platform limit.
Tips
- Leave case sensitivity off for keyword work — search engines ignore case anyway.
- Run this before counting anything; duplicate-inflated numbers mislead planning.
- If duplicates are widespread, fix the export process rather than cleaning every time.
Limitations
Only textual duplicates are detected. Two phrases with the same meaning but different words are not duplicates here, and neither are singular versus plural forms. Enabling punctuation stripping can occasionally merge phrases you meant to keep apart.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it change my original list?
- No. Your input stays as typed. The unique list is produced separately so you can compare before replacing anything.
- Why is 'running shoes' treated as a duplicate?
- Repeated spaces are collapsed during normalisation, so double-spaced variants match their single-spaced equivalent. That is almost always the behaviour you want.
- What is the difference from the deduplicator?
- This tool reports what repeats and how often. The Keyword Deduplicator focuses on returning the cleaned list with the fewest clicks.
