About this tool
Order matters more than people expect. When you always work through a keyword list top to bottom, the phrases at the bottom get the tired end of your attention. The Keyword Mixer reorders and blends two lists so you approach them fresh, and it can also interleave or pair them when you need a specific structure rather than randomness.
How it works
Shuffle mode merges both lists and reorders them using a seeded pseudo-random algorithm, which means the same seed always produces the same order — useful when you need to reproduce a batch later. Interleave mode alternates strictly between list A and list B, preserving the relative order inside each. Pair mode combines each item of A with each item of B to form two-part phrases. Duplicates are removed in all three modes.
- 1Paste list A and, if you have one, list B.
- 2Choose shuffle, interleave or pair.
- 3Set a seed if you want the shuffle to be reproducible.
- 4Generate and export the mixed list.
Example
Input
A: keyword research, keyword ideas · B: hashtag research, hashtag ideas
Output
keyword ideas · hashtag research · keyword research · hashtag ideas (seeded shuffle)
When to use it
- Rotating which keywords get worked on first across a long content sprint.
- Interleaving two campaign themes so a posting schedule alternates naturally.
- Building two-part phrases when a strict cartesian product would be overkill.
- Randomising a sample for manual quality review of a large list.
Tips
- Record the seed alongside the exported file so you can regenerate the identical order later.
- Use interleave when two lists must stay balanced, such as alternating product and educational posts.
- Deduplicate both lists first so the mix does not waste slots on repeats.
Limitations
Mixing does not create new information. A shuffled list contains exactly the same phrases in a different order, and the seeded shuffle is pseudo-random rather than cryptographically random. Pair mode can grow quickly with large inputs.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does the shuffle repeat the same order?
- Because it is seeded. Change the seed value to get a different order, or keep it to reproduce a previous run exactly.
- What is the difference between mixer and combiner?
- The combiner always produces every combination of your lists. The mixer focuses on order — shuffling or interleaving — and only creates combinations when you pick pair mode.
- Is the randomness secure?
- No, and it is not meant to be. It is a deterministic pseudo-random sequence chosen so results are repeatable, not unpredictable.
