Local SEO Keyword Planning

6 min read

How service businesses build location keyword lists that map cleanly onto real pages instead of spam.

Service × location is the core pattern

Local search vocabulary is highly predictable: a service, a location, and sometimes a qualifier such as near me, emergency, affordable or 24 hour. Generating that grid takes seconds and gives you a complete map of the phrases people in your area use.

The generation step is easy. The discipline is in deciding which combinations deserve a page.

Only build pages you can genuinely justify

A page for every service in every suburb, produced by find-and-replace, is doorway content — search engines identify it easily and it damages trust. Build a location page when you have something real to say: an address, staff, service area details, local projects, photographs, reviews from that area, or genuinely different pricing and availability.

For areas where you have nothing specific yet, cover them as sections of a single service-area page rather than as separate thin pages.

Consistency beyond your site

Local visibility depends heavily on signals outside your website: a complete and accurate business profile, consistent name, address and phone number across directories, categories that match your services, and a steady flow of genuine reviews. Keyword planning supports those signals; it does not replace them.

Frequently asked questions

Should I target 'near me' phrases?
You cannot target them literally, because the location is supplied by the device. Serve them by being accurate about where you operate — profile, address, service areas and on-page location context.
How many location pages is too many?
As soon as pages are distinguishable only by a swapped place name, you have too many. Merge them into one strong service-area page.
